Giacomo Calderoni, who already was First English Horn of the Orchestra of Teatro alla Scala started studying the piano very soon. When he was eleven years old, he started performing his first piano concerts, obtaining enthusiastic approval among the public. Afterwards, he entered the Oboe course held by M° Martino Lorè at Conservatorio G. Martini, where he graduated in 1962 with full marks.
He soon started his professional activity with Lyric and Symphonic productions at the Municipal Theatre in Bologna, substituting the First Oboe. In 1966, he won the National Contest for Second Oboe, performed in the same theatre, and he recorded the Symphony for 2 oboes, 2 baroque flutes, 2 violins, 2 organs, strings and cembalo, by Tomaso Antonio Vitali, for the Parisian record company BDM-Erato “Baroque Splendor”.

In 1972, he won the international contest for “English Horn Solo” and “Oboe” at Teatro alla Scala. He led this role until 2001. During the same period he also became a member of Filarmonica della Scala and he worked with the most famous cotemporary conductors.
He had been a permanent state Oboe teacher at Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi, in Milan from 1974 until 2001: his pupils hold prestigious positions.
He was teacher of high-specialization courses of Orchestra Filarmonica of Teatro alla Scala, and also of Training Courses of Accademia del Teatro alla Scala.
He plays Oboe, Oboe d’amore, English Horn of F.lli Patricola, to whom is addressed a sincere professional gratitude.
